What is VLIBRAS?

The result of a partnership between the Ministry of Planning, Development and Management (MP), through the Information Technology Secretariat (STI) and the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), the VLibras Suite consists of a set of computational code tools open, responsible for translating digital content (text, audio and video) into the Brazilian Sign Language – LIBRAS, making computers, mobile devices and web platforms accessible to deaf people.

How it works

VLibras is a suite of tools used in automatic translation from Portuguese to Brazilian Sign Language. You can use these tools both on the Desktop computer and on smartphones and tablets.

Usage guidelines for browsers

After installing the plugin in your browser, just select the text you want to be read in pounds, then right-click on the selected text and choose the option “Translate “….” into LIBRAS, as shown in the image below. An avatar box will open and the text will start to be translated.
