HIV = Virus that causes AIDS
AIDS = The disease manifested
A person can become infected with HIV and never get sick, that is, have AIDS, since there is effective treatment for HIV-positive people.
HIV is transmitted through:
– Unprotected sex
– Transfusion of contaminated blood;
– During pregnancy (From an infected mother to her child during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding);
– Non-sterile piercing/cutting instruments.
HIV is not transmitted through:
– Sweat;
– Kissing;
– A Handshake;
– Cutlery/glasses;
– Bus seat;
– Blood donation;
– Through the air.
-Protected sexual intercourse
-Unprotected sexual intercourse with an HIV-positive person who adheres to treatment.
How to take care:
– In sexual relations, use protection methods that are in line with your values and beliefs.
– Reduce the number of sexual partners;
– If you have wounds, lumps, warts or discharge in the anus, vagina or penis, look for the nearest Health Service, as these symptoms may be STIs;
– If you inject drugs, avoid sharing needles and syringes.
-Take an HIV test regularly.
